JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Estimator/Project Manager to join our team. This position is responsible for reviewing project plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine the scope of work and prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and residential sitework projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labor, and equipment, with experience estimating excavation, site development, underground utilities, stormwater, water and sewer, asphalt, and related sitework. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review project plans, specifications, drawings, addendums and contract documents to determine the complete scope of work and project requirements.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, hauling, subcontractors, and other project costs.

  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and quantity surveys for excavation, utilities, sitework, materials, labor, and equipment.

  • Analyze project plans and specifications to identify potential risks, discrepancies, omissions, and opportunities.

  • Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain pricing and other information necessary to prepare estimates.

  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.

  • Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and other tools to develop and maintain accurate estimates.

  • Prepare and submit competitive bids, proposals, and other required documentation within established deadlines.

  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.

  • Review historical project costs and production information to improve estimating accuracy and future bids.

  • Analyze project risks and develop appropriate contingencies and allowances when necessary.

  • Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, take-offs, proposals, subcontractor quotes, and related documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with management, project managers, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients throughout the estimating process.

  • Assist with project turnover from estimating to project management by communicating scope, pricing, assumptions, and other important project details.

  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and scope of work.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules and manpower needs.

  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and customers.

  • Track job costs, labor, materials, equipment, and production.

  • Identify and address change orders, unforeseen conditions, and project risks.

  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety.

  • Ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, schedule, and budget.

  • Performs other tasks required by management.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years experience as an Estimator in the construction industry, preferably in sitework, excavation, underground utilities, or related construction

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor, equipment, and production rates

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, civil plans, specifications, and contract documents

  • Ability to perform accurate material and quantity take-offs

  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing

  • Proficient in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and other computer-based estimating tools (Trimble/Agtek)

  • Experience in private and public sector (preferred)

  • Experience with excavation, grading, underground utilities, stormwater, water and sewer, slope stabilization, retaining walls, culverts and general site development (preferred)

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Ability to pass pre-employment/random drug screen, background check, and MVR
